Cathy's Page- a story to share with a child

                                                                                  Cathy’s Column

Here’s a story called “Who Do You Say I Am?”  Please share this with a child, especially one who might be worried about what others say about her.

Sarah couldn't sleep. She had a tough day at school. She turned on her light and picked up a Bible picture book. Suddenly, she heard her dad's footsteps on the stairs.

"Sarah, what are you doing up?  It's late and you need to sleep" dad said.

"I had a bad day at school. People are calling me things.  Billy calls me silly idiot. Bobby calls me crazy girl. Lisa calls me her best friend and my teacher calls me a good student and my cousin calls me a knucklehead.  Who do you say I am Daddy?"

Her dad smiled and said "I say you are my daughter and I love you and all that you are, but there is someone who knows you and loves you even more."

     "Who?  Mommy?"

"No" said Dad "Even more than Mommy and that person is Jesus.  He asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that I am?’  His disciples, who were his closest friends, said "Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, still others say Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ But then Jesus asked ‘Who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered You are the Messiah, the son of the living God.’  Jesus said, ‘blessed are you. My father in Heaven gave you that answer.’”  (Matthew 16:13-20)

"Oh, I get it. The people that loved Jesus knew who he was, so I should listen to the people who know me and love me," said Sarah

"Yes, my Sarah, I love you but Jesus loves you so much more."

"I love Jesus too,” said Sarah. "I'll listen to Jesus when the kids call me names.  Will you read to me another story about Jesus?"

"I will, but then you need to get to sleep."

Sarah slept well that night knowing she was truly loved by the Savior and by her family.
